Our case study “Combating Unilateral Facial Paralysis With Low-Latency Muscle Reanimation” received the 2016 Northern Europe NI Engineering Impact Award in the biomedical category. The awards ceremony was held on 28 November 2016 at RSA House, London, UK.
The case study and the award show what can be reached with multidisciplinary collaboration. While we, engineers from the Tampere University of Technology, received the award and are responsible for the technology development, we have a team of specialists from other fields of science working on the topic. We have experts on human–technology interaction, psychology, and medicine from the University of Tampere that are responsible for carrying out experiments and clinical trials with the developed technology.
Our work is a part of the Mimetic Interfaces project that is funded by the Academy of Finland.
